November Organization of the Month: The Robert Green Ingersoll Birthplace Museum

In honor of the author of our November Series of the Month, we have selected The Robert Green Ingersoll Birthplace Museum as our Organization of the Month!

Nestled in the heart of the New York Fingerlakes region, the museum is located in Dresden, the birthplace and home of Ingersoll.

Period furniture and replica rooms are open and available for tours; see where Ingersoll was born, learn about his war service, and his law career.

The museum is open Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5pm, and a $5 donation is suggested.

October Organization of the Month: International Cryptozoology Museum

Cosimo is excited to announce International Cryptozoology Museum as our Organization of the Month for October!

Cryptozoologist and Cosimo author Loren Coleman is the founder and director of the International Cryptozoology Museum, one of the world’s only cryptozoology museums.

The ICM offers guests a wide range of exhibitions from rare, one-of-a-kind scientific specimens to popular cultural homages to sightings, encounters, art, and research. The museum's mission is not only to educate, but to entertain as well! A gift shop with unique souvenirs (and maybe even a few books or two!), conferences and trips, as well as many talks and speeches are also available throughout the year.

The museum is open every day but Tuesdays, and is located at 4 Thompson’s Point Road, in Portland, Maine.

Loren Coleman has been investigating cryptozoological evidence since the Abominable Snowmen caught his interest more than five decades ago. September Organization of the Month: Banned Books Week Coalition

Cosimo is celebrating banned books this September with our Organization of the Month, The Banned Books Week Coalition!

Banned Books Week happens once a year and celebrates the freedom to read. The week is sponsored by a host of great organizations dedicated to free expression, including: American Booksellers Association, American Library Association, The Authors Guild, Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, Freedom to Read Foundation, Index on Censorship, National Coalition Against Censorship, National Council of Teachers of English, PEN America, and many more.

According to the Banned Books website, limiting access to controversial titles is not the answer for tough questions or broaching controversial topics. Many titles that continue to be removed from shelves, taken away from schools, or eliminated from classroom reading lists include stories about or subjects on LGBTQ, explicit content, witchcraft, swearing, suicide, and much more.

Banned Books Week was launched in 1982 in response to a sudden surge in the number of challenges to books in schools, bookstores and libraries. The 2018 celebration will be held September 23 - September 29. To find an event near you, please visit the Banned Books website.

August Organization of the Month: Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum

This August, we are very excited to present the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum as our organization of the month!

A special exhibit is now open at the museum, highlighting some of our favorite presidents and Cosimo authors: “From Illinois to the White House: Lincoln, Grant, Reagan, Obama." Celebrate these amazing men who called Illinois their home, while testing your knowledge of presidential trivia, or practice your political skills while giving White House addresses and speeches through a teleprompter.

Along with the museum, there is also The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library, which boasts a large collection of documents that are essential to understanding the history of Illinois and its most famous citizen, Abraham Lincoln.

The library is open Monday through Friday, while the museum is open seven days a week. Plan your visit now by checking out their calendar, or listen to a great podcast if a road trip isn't feasible. History buffs can also read all about the 16th president of the United States by reading one of the many books by or about him that Cosimo has to offer.

July Organization of the Month: The International UFO Museum And Research Center

Cosimo is happy to present the International UFO Museum And Research Center as our Organization of the Month for July!

The museum is dedicated to the Roswell Incident and is a sure entertainment hotspot for both believers and non believers! The International UFO Museum's mission is to collect and preserve all materials and information that are related to the 1947 Roswell Incident and other unexplained phenomena related to UFO research. 

The museum is open seven days a week and helped sponsor the 2018 UFO Festival! Attractions include an alien autotopsy, meet and greets with ufologists, and an extensive collection of research and books curatoed in their library. Curious tourists can also visit the UFO themed restaurant across the street post-museum tour!  

The museum also hosts a gift shop with a fantastic selection of our books! One of our favorites includes:

Crash at Corona: The U.S. Military Retrieval and Cover-Up of a UFO by Don Berliner Stanton T. Friedman

Aviation /science writer Don Berliner and nuclear physicist Stanton Friedman, the original civilian investigator of the so-called Roswell incident, have delved into the controversy to find the truth. They sifted through once-classified government documents, interviewed military and civilian witnesses, pieced together evidence, considered alternative theories, and concluded that a UFO crashed near Corona -- and the U.S. government knew it and covered it up.
