Happy Birthday to Classic Author Robert G. Ingersoll!

American freethinker and author Robert Green Ingersoll was born on this day in 1833! Pick up one of these great titles before heading over to The Robert Green Ingersoll Birthplace Museum to celebrate this great author.

Ingersoll was a notorious radical whose uncompromising views on religion and slavery (they were bad, in his opinion), women's suffrage (a good idea, he believed), and other contentious matters of his era made him a wildly popular orator and critic of 19th-century American culture and public life.

In celebration of this great politician, veteran, and lawyer's birthday, Cosimo has highlighted some of his greatest works:

Some Mistakes of Moses
First published in 1879, this audaciously titled volume is a collection of short essays challenging the concept of biblical inerrancy. Focusing on the first five books of the Bible, once popularly believed to have been written by Moses, Ingersoll highlights the savageries, absurdities, injustices, and scientific inaccuracies of the writings considered noble and true by so many. As enjoyable a read as it is a provocative one, this is the lost classic of a true American original.

Considered in their day some of the finest gems of oratory, these lectures by Ingersoll feature some of his most entertaining and most insightful yet lesser known talks, including: "Eulogy on Abraham Lincoln," "Grand Future of America," "Best Portion of the Earth," "Getting Up Early in the Morning," "The Fashions and Handsome Women," "What the Railroads Have Done," "How a Man Should Treat His Wife and Children" and many more.

Ingersoll published this lecture in 1894, a stirring tribute to the honesty, courage, and genius of a beloved leader at a time when his life and works were still within living memory. Focusing in particular on Lincoln's abhorrence of slavery and his work to defeat it as a national institution, Ingersoll offers readers today an invaluable perspective on the great President from the era immediately after his own, when his legend was being cemented in the American imagination.

As a speaker dedicated to expanding intellectual horizons and celebrating the value of skepticism, Ingersoll spoke frequently on such topics as atheism, freedom from the pressures of conformity, and the lives of philosophers who espoused such concepts. This collection of his most famous speeches includes the lectures: "The Gods" (1872), "Humboldt" (1869), "Thomas Paine" (1870), "Individuality" (1873), and "Heretics and Heresies" (1874).

Cosimo is also happy to offer a both a paperback and hardcover edition of the 12 volume series The Works of Robert G. Ingersoll.

August Classic of the Month, Ben Hur, Releases in Theaters Next Week!

More than fifty years since its last adaption, Ben-Hur will be remade once again. The film, which releases August 19 in the United States in 2D, 3D, RealD 3D, Digital 3D and IMAX 3D, will star Boardwalk Empire actor Jack Huston alongside legendary Morgan Freeman, Toby Kebbell, Nazanin Boniadi, Haluk Bilginer and Rodrigo Santoro.

Once the best-selling and most widely read American novel by Lew Wallace, and the first work of fiction to be blessed by the Pope, Ben-Hur has given rise to numerous stage and film adaptions since its creation. Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ chronicles the journey of Judah Ben-Hur and the life of Jesus, from Ben-Hur's quest for vengeance against the Romans and his search for his imprisoned family to the birth of Jesus in the manger and the Crucifixion. Cleverly connecting two story-lines to create both an exciting tale of adventure---with shipwrecks, chariot races, and duels---and a compelling story of love and spiritual growth, Ben-Hur has continued to engage readers and entertain audiences for more than a century.

Cosimo is proud to offer this title in both hardcover and paperback at leading online bookstores including Barnes & Noble (hardcover, paperback) and Amazon (hardcover, paperback).

Celebrate our August Classic of the Month by reading this great book before grabbing your popcorn and heading to a movie theater near you!

US Constitution Becomes Best-Seller After Democratic Convention Speech

Last week the Democratic National Convention was held in Philadelphia, a city with a history as rich as one can get in the U.S., as one of the nation's capitals in the Revolutionary War and a meeting place for the Founding Fathers of the United States, who signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776 and the Constitution in 1787.

It was in this city that the Constitution again drew attention, after Muslim-American lawyer Khizr Khan, whose son was killed while serving in Iraq, gave a speech criticizing the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, accusing Trump of not knowing the Constitution and offering him his own copy of the Constitution to read.

Just within a few days, the Constitution reached the Top 10 best-selling books on Amazon, showing the power of national television - as if most viewers had not heard of the Constitution before.

If you didn't buy your own copy of the Constitution yet, or if you want to offer a nice hardcover copy to your friends and family, then we are happy to present Cosimo's The Constitution of the United States and Other Historical American Documents, which includes in one volume the three founding documents of the United States and another that altered and divided the Union for a brief moment in history: The Declaration of Independence, The Articles of Confederation, The Constitution, and The Constitution of the Confederate States, created after the attempt to secede from the Union. Together, these four documents offer a firsthand perspective on the political history of the United States and are a great gift for anyone who wants to have those American founding documents at hand - whether it's to fact-check during the upcoming Presidential debates or just to kniw what the Constitution has to say.

Cosimo offers this volume in hardcover, paperback and ebook.

July Series of the Month: Roswell Reports

The Roswell Report: Fact Versus Fiction in the New Mexico Desert is the first of two reports discussing the supposed crash landing of an alien aircraft in Roswell, New Mexico, in the summer of 1947.

Colonel Richard L. Weaver and First Lieutenant James McAndrew, at the request of Congressional Representative Steven Schiff (R-NM), sifted through old reports in order to explain the events that occurred in July 1947, which became known as the Roswell Incident. Included in the report are references to Air Force experiments conducted at the time of the crash landing that could account for the debris discovered and investigated.

A follow-up to the report, Fact Versus Fiction in the New Mexico Desert, Case Closed includes further analysis and discussion of the events. The Foreword explains, "Our objective throughout this inquiry has been simple and consistent: to find all the facts and bring them to light. If documents were classified, declassify them; where they were dispersed, bring them into a single source for public review."

These reports, originally published in 1995 and 1997 respectively, include an all-new Introduction from UFO-expert Stanton Friedman. The U.S. AIR FORCE is the aviation branch of the United States military. The headquarters of this branch authorized several research projects on the origin and existence of UFOs and published multiple reports of their findings from the 1950s through the 1980s. It is still the subject of speculation today whether the U.S. Air Force is responsible for a large-scale cover-up of UFO and extraterrestrial evidence.

The Roswell Reports are both available in paperback at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

July Book of the Month: Crash at Corona

In July of 1947, something crashed near Corona, a tiny town not far from Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947. And that crash has been dissected and debated ever since.

Cosimo is highlighting Crash at Corona: The U.S. Military Retrieval and Cover-Up of a UFO - The Definitive Study of the Roswell Incident by Don Berliner and Stanton T. Friedman in honor of the anniversary of the the Roswell Incident.

Berliner and Friedman sifted through once-classified government documents, interviewed military and civilian witnesses, pieced together evidence, considered alternative theories, and concluded that a UFO crashed near Corona-and the U.S. government knew it and covered it up.

Praise for Crash at Corona
"One of the more credible books arguing the existence of UFOs...Most arresting of all is the testimony of those who handled the debris, who had no opportunity to compare notes, yet have described the materials ...in almost identical language." -- Publishers Weekly

About the Authors
Don Berliner has written more than 300 magazine articles and 25 books on aviation history and space and was also a staff writer for the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP). He is board chairman of the non-profit Fund for UFO Research, Inc., and is a delegate to the UFO Research Coalition.

Stanton T. Friedman is a nuclear physicist and is also the author of Top Secret/Majic. He has appeared on Larry King, Unsolved Mysteries, and Nightline and was involved with the documentaries UFOs Are Real and Flying Saucers Are Real. He has given more than 700 lectures on the subject of UFOs. Friedman also wrote introductions for two other titles published by Cosimo, The Roswell Report: Fact versus Fiction in the New Mexico Desert and The Roswell Report: Case Closed. To see Friedman in person, visit his events page for all upcoming conferences, lectures, and festivals near you!

Cosimo is proud to offer both an affordable paperback and handsome hardcover edition of Crash at Corona at leading online bookstores including Barnes & Noble (paperback, hardcover, and eBook), and Amazon (paperback, hardcover, and eBook).

Edgar Rice Burroughs' Classic Tarzan, Now in Theaters!

The Legend of Tarzan, based on the fictional character created by Edgar Rice Burroughs, is now out in movie theaters! Directed by David Yates, the cast includes Alexander SkarsgÃ¥rd, Samuel L. Jackson, Margot Robbie, Djimon Hounsou,Jim Broadbent and Christoph Waltz.

"From a lofty perch Tarzan viewed the village of thatched huts across the intervening plantation. He saw that at one point the forest touched the village, and to this spot he made his way, lured by a fever of curiosity to behold animals of his own kind, and to learn more of their ways and view the strange lairs in which they lived. His savage life among the fierce wild brutes of the jungle left no opening for any thought that these could be aught else than enemies. Similarity of form led him into no erroneous conception of the welcome that would be accorded him should he be discovered by these, the first of his own kind he had ever seen. Tarzan of the Apes was no sentimentalist. He knew nothing of the brotherhood of man. All things outside his own tribe were his deadly enemies... ”
        -  From Chapter X: The Fear-Phantom

Edgar Rice Burroughs created one of the most iconic figures in American pop culture, Tarzan of the Apes, and it is impossible to overstate his influence on entire genres of popular literature in the decades after his enormously winning pulp novels stormed the public's imagination. Tarzan of the Apes, first published in 1912, is the first installment of Burroughs' tales of the ape-man, which would expand to encompass more than two-dozen books. Here, an English boy orphaned in Africa is raised by apes, becoming a fearsome creature of the jungle until he discovers his true identity as John Clayton, Lord Greystoke, and make his first tentative forays back into human civilization, through his love for the only human woman he has ever seen, Jane Porter.

About the Author
American novelist Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875-1950) wrote dozens of adventure, crime, and science fiction novels that are still beloved today, including the series: Tarzan of the Apes, The Return of Tarzan, The Beasts of Tarzan, The Son of Tarzan, Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar, Jungle Tales of Tarzan, Tarzan the Untamed, Tarzan the Terrible, and many, many more!

About the Book
In December 1980, Larry Warren was a member of the Air Force security police stationed at RAF Bentwaters, a NATO base in Great Britain. On the night of the 28th he was on guard duty when he was taken by truck to join other Air Force personnel to investigate a disturbance in a Rendlesham Forest about five miles away, which turned out to be a landed UFO.

This was the third night of UFO activity in the area and by far the most profound. When the men were debriefed the next day, they were warned to tell no one about what they had seen-as "bullets are cheap." And so began what would turn out to be the best documented and most significant military-UFO incident in history.

This remarkable story, told with the help of investigative writer Peter Robbins, was the basis of the Sci Fi Channel's documentary UFO Invasion at Rendlesham.

About the Authors
Peter Robbins is one of the most respected and best-known investigative writers on the serious study of UFOs. He's been involved with extraterrestrial phenomena for more than thirty years as a researcher, investigator, writer, lecturer, activist, consultant, author, and conference organizer. Peter is a regular fixture on radio shows around the country and in the United Kingdom. He is also co-host of the monthly program "Encounters" on GRA Network Radio. He is often a guest on and consultant to numerous television shows and documentaries. Robbins' articles, essays, commentaries, and columns have appeared online and in numerous print publications. He is a popular lecturer at colleges, universities, and conferences both here and abroad

Peter Robbins is the co-author of the British bestseller Left At East Gate: A First Hand Account of the Rendlesham Forest UFO Incident, Its Cover-up and Investigation. Cosimo is proud to present this title in paperback, hardcover, and eBook editions.

Celebrate Our June Series of the Month with Alice Through the Looking Glass!

All of us at Cosimo are celebrating the release of Alice Through the Looking Glass this June by reading Lewis Carroll's classic books!

In 1865, English author Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (1832-1898), aka Lewis Carroll, wrote a fantastical adventure story for the young daughters of a friend. The adventures of Alice-named for one of the little girls to whom the book was dedicated-who journeys down a rabbit hole and into a whimsical underworld realm instantly struck a chord with the British public, and then with readers around the world.

Here, in one volume, you'll find both Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and the 1872 sequel, Through the Looking-Glass. Together, this is a masterwork of playful prose in which the author has invented some of the most memorable characters in literature: the White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter and the Red Queen.

Alice Through the Looking Glass is produced by Tim Burton and is loosely based on the Lewis Carroll classic. The film stars Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Mia Wasikowska, Rhys Ifans, Matt Lucas, Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen, and is the sequel to the 2010 film Alice in Wonderland.

Cosimo is proud to offer Alice's Adventures in Wonderland as well as Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass in both hardcover and paperback. These titles are all unabridged replica editions which feature the original illustrations by English artist Sir John Tenniel.

Cosimo also offers a facsimile of the original 1864 Author's Manuscript, Alice's Adventures Under Ground. This edition of Alice's Adventures under Ground is the second recorded version of Alice's tales, and a treasure for collectors and Alice in Wonderland fans.

June Classic of the Month: The Report on Unidentified Flying Objects

Cosimo is proud to present the June Classic of the Month, The Report on Unidentified Flying Objects: The Original 1956 Edition by Edward J. Ruppelt with an introduction by UFO expert and investigative writer Colin Bennett. It was in June of 1947 that the phrase "flying saucer" gained national attention when a pilot named Kenneth Arnold reported seeing nine unidentified objects flying in formation near Mount Rainier in Washington State.

The Report on Unidentified Flying Objects was the first serious, unbiased account written about UFOs by anyone connected with the official government investigations of UFO phenomena. Ruppelt, who coined the term "unidentified flying objects" and headed Project Blue Book from 1951 to 1953, includes his personal investigations and findings in his extensive research on UFOs. He discusses both well-publicized UFO sightings and lesser-known accounts, as well as the inner workings of Air Force UFO research.

About the Author
Edward J. Ruppelt (1923-1960) served at the Air Technical Intelligence Center, where he took over Project Grudge, a formal investigation by the U.S. military with the goal of debunking extraterrestrial and UFO activity. Under Ruppelt's supervision, the project, later named Blue Book, experienced its most fruitful years, when investigations were properly conducted without judgment or disdain.
